Art has always been a part of Raimy Washington’s life. “My mom and grandma were so artistic but I didn’t consider it a career,” said the 23-year old.

Thanks to arts donors like you, Raimy was amongst nearly 40 artists and performers given the paid opportunity by the Lincoln Arts Council to interact with other artists, patrons and the general public at the 2021 Lincoln Arts Festival held on Canopy Street in The Railyard.

Raimy provided “live painting,” working on a piece for several hours as the public stopped by to watch, ask questions and allow her to talk about her process.

“I had never painted in front of people,” Raimy said. “I usually lock myself in a room to really focus on my work. But people were so kind and encouraging. I had to be vulnerable and honestly, it was so fun and so inspiring.”

Not only did the general public get to see art in action, but artists like Raimy had networking opportunities with buyers and peers, helping to grow her career in the arts. “I was able to meet these artists that I had followed and admired online,” she said. “I was starry eyed and humbled watching them work.”
